On February 27th G. Mongelli, P. Mameli, G. Cerri, G. Oggiano, H. Ouladmansour and D. Pinna of the IGEA S.P.A. performed the sampling at the Olmedo mine in the Nurra District.
During the same day additional samples were collected from an open pit at the Sa Sorega site. In total 12 samples of Sardinian bauxite were collected.On February 28th were sampled red muds at the Portovesme disposal site, within the Euroallumina plant. 14 short core drillings of about 30 to 50 cm were collected along with 14 surface specimens.
The very first 10-20 cm of the accumulation were discharged prior to any sampling activity. A proper amount of each sample was shipped to both the Opigeo Labs and the Dept of Earth and Geoenvironmental
Sciences of UniBa. Australian and Guinea bauxite ores from which red muds derived were also sampled at the plant.
